Prosecutors may offer Clancy a plea deal for a lesser charge, such as second-degree murder or manslaughter rather than first-degree murder, according to Bailey. “I can’t imagine Kevin Reddington would accept that or take it,” Bailey added of a plea deal. Bailey said he believes that at a new trial, the prosecution will focus on finding stronger experts, specifically ones that have experience with treating postpartum psychosis. Current treatment strategies are mostly supportive, and functional recovery is considered highly unlikely.Psilocybin, the psychedelic component of magic mushrooms, has previously been touted as an effective treatment for depression, anxiety, addiction and PTSD — but now researchers say it has the potential to be used in Alzheimer’s intervention as well.In this case study, published in Frontiers in Neuroscience, researchers focused on an 80-year-old Japanese-American woman with Alzheimer’s. Her condition had declined over the last decade and was reduced to urinary incontinence, speaking in single syllables and dependence on caregivers for mobility support. She was then given a 5 g dose of magic mushrooms.During the initial phase, she was agitated, sweated profusely and entered a prolonged sleep state that suggested unconsciousness. But around hour 19, she began speaking in full sentences, recalling life events she had been unable to articulate for years.In the days and weeks that followed, more incredible changes emerged. She regained urinary continence, even in the evenings, and began dressing herself. She was able to make and maintain eye contact, remember social interactions, emotionally respond to others and hold lucid conversations. Bullock further noted that Louis and Laila were “very astute” and could sense what happened. “They not only see the physical change, there’s a behavior that changes in all of us,” she said. “When I would bring things up to them, it was when they asked and when I could see them see it and ask them what it is that they want to do in this situation. ‘How do you want to handle what you just saw or where you are here?’ Louis handled it very different than Laila.” She continued, “About two years before Bryan passed, he saw it was a dynamic that wasn’t healthy for him to be around. So, he’s very evolved, he’s like, ‘You know what, I’m here for you’ … but he chose to just sort of be there and support and help me on the things that were easy [for him]. But he smartly disengaged himself and said, ‘This is a safer space for me to sit,’ and I said, ‘Absolutely, you go.
