The student's mother, Ashley Beckley, told police she remembered her son receiving “gas money through Venmo” from a teacher. Although Beckley described the payment as “kind of inappropriate”, she said she did not initially know which teacher had sent the money or why.

It was only after investigators began examining Kindred's relationship with her son that the payment allegedly took on a more disturbing significance. The relationship had reportedly begun after the teenager discovered Kindred's Instagram account, before their interactions subsequently escalated into a sexually explicit context, and then they allegedly had sex at her home for around three-and-a-half hours while her husband was away hunting. Afterwards, the teenager sent her a message which read: “Mom glad I can satisfy you.
