Larry Nassar's Registry Status Sparks Controversy Amid False Claims

Update 10/2/26 at 3:50 p.m. — Michigan law enforcement officials are disputing the report that Larry Nassar was removed from the state’s sex offender registry, saying the disgraced former USA Gymnastics doctor was never on the list to begin with.

State police explained to the Detroit News that only sex offenders living in Michigan are required to appear on the registry. Nassar, 63, has been serving his sentence at a facility in Pennsylvania.

"Information suggesting that convicted sex offender Nassar was removed from the Sex Offender Registry (SOR) by the Michigan State Police (MSP) because of the Smith decision is incorrect," Lori Dougovito, a spokeswoman for Michigan State Police, told the outlet.
