Jennifer Lawrence's Bold Instagram Move Sparks Buzz
Jennifer Lawrence has joined the world of Instagram. “So, yeah, I’m giving it a shot,” Lawrence, 36, began a video shared via the social media platform Thursday, September 10. “If anyone says anything negative, I will quit immediately — no questions asked. If anyone thinks something mean, I’ll know and I’ll quit.” Lawrence shared a follow-up message via her Instagram Stories, writing, “Please be mindful that any mean or aggressive comments can negatively affect the baby. It’s me. I’m the baby.” The Die My Love actress has not shared additional posts on her @jlaw profile yet, noting in her bio that the @jenniferlawrence handle was already taken and she went with her celebrity nickname instead.
Lawrence had previously been wary about posting content on social media. “I’m on [Instagram], but I’m a voyeur: I watch, I don’t speak. There is always so much backlash,” she said in a 2018 interview, per Time. “So many people are listening and paying attention, and they have so many opinions about absolutely everything. I really don’t want to welcome that unless it’s absolutely necessary.” She continued, “I don’t want to put myself out there for no reason. Unless I’m promoting something or something really burns my onions, you won’t hear from me.” Lawrence was also opposed to making a profile on X (formerly Twitter).
“I will never get Twitter," she claimed during a 2014 interview on BBC Radio 1. “I'm not very good on [on my] phone or [with] technology. I cannot really keep up with emails, so the idea of Twitter is so unthinkable to me. I don't really understand what it is. It's like this weird enigma that people talk about. It's fine, I respect that, but no, I'll never get a Twitter.” Lawrence is especially famously private about her personal life — she shares two children with her husband, Cooke Maroney. “My heart has stretched to a capacity that I didn’t know about. I include my husband in that. And then they’re both just, like, out there — walking around, crossing streets,” the Oscar winner told Vogue in 2022 after welcoming her first child, son Cy. “He’s gonna drive one day. He’s gonna be a stupid teenager and be behind the wheel of a car. And I’m just gonna be like, ‘Good night!’ You know? Like, who sleeps?” She added at the time, “The morning after I gave birth, I felt like my whole life had started over. Like, Now is day one of my life. I just stared. I was just so in love. I also fell in love with all babies everywhere. Newborns are just so amazing. They’re these pink, swollen, fragile little survivors.” Lawrence gave birth to baby No. 2 in 2025 but has not publicly shared the child’s name or sex.
